Boise State men’s tennis claimed its first Dar Walters Fall Classic Blue Draw championship since 2019 this past weekend, with Izan Orgiles and Julius Seifert capturing the Blue Draw title after defeating Montana 2-1.
Orgiles and Seifert opened the championship match with a dominant performance in doubles, defeating Montana’s Matt Upton and Darrshan Suresh Kumar 6-0.
The Broncos controlled the match from the start, earning a decisive victory to put themselves in position to claim the Blue Draw championship.
With the title coming down to singles play, both Orgiles and Seifert took the court against their Montana opponents.
Seifert faced Kumar in singles, falling 6-4, 6-2. Despite the loss, Orgiles came through for the Broncos in the other singles match, defeating Upton 6-4, 6-2 to secure the championship for Boise State.
Orgiles’ victory gave the Broncos the 2-1 team win and completed an undefeated weekend for the Boise State sophomore.
For the Broncos, the championship was also a return to the top of the tournament after a six-year drought. Boise State last claimed the Dar Walters Fall Classic title in 2019, making this year’s championship the program’s first since then.
In the consolation side of the Blue Draw bracket, Eyad Ezzat and Brady Tallakson competed in both doubles and singles play.
The pair fell to Montana State’s Reuben de Klerk and Gareth Igesund in doubles competition.
Ezzat then faced Igesund in singles, battling through three sets before ultimately falling 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10). Tallakson also went to three sets against de Klerk, losing 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (5).
While Ezzat and Tallakson were unable to advance through the consolation bracket, Orgiles and Seifert’s performance in the championship portion of the draw gave the Broncos a strong finish to the weekend.
The Blue Draw title highlighted a successful tournament for Orgiles, who remained undefeated in singles, and Seifert, who teamed with Orgiles to dominate the doubles championship match.
The Broncos will travel to San Francisco, Calif. for the Battle in the Bay Classic Oct. 1-4.
