Taylor Swift brings four brand new songs to her fans on the album “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.” Following the release Swift added encore as an edition to her latest album “The Life of a Showgirl,” on Sept. 24. Swift’s album sparked conversation among netizens surrounding the album’s lyrics and theme. Especially on social media, where many fans hopped on the bandwagon as soon as the songs were released. Let’s see if these songs bring that same vibe for people offline.
“Patient Zero”
This song reminds me of “Folklore” with the whimsical and playful instrumental background that plays throughout the song. It greets listeners with a strong violin sound that sets the tone for the song. Similar to traditional songwriting, she calls out a toxic relationship and claims she represents being “Patient Zero,” relating herself to the listener by referring to herself as the first person who has experienced “trouble in paradise.” I think the beat definitely makes this song stand out while also making the message clear for the listener.
“Cleveland!”
On her second track, Swift’s song features a tribute to Travis Kelce with the lyrics, “This is the love of my life.” Her excitement in “Cleveland!” is a direct connection to her genuine joy in finding love. Regardless of the hate she faces online, Swift has found herself embracing her relationship with Kelce. Both albums “Speak Now” and “Red” are similar to her track featuring cheerful beats that are representative of Swift’s love life.
“Pink Clouding”
The theme of the thrill of pure love in the song gravitated towards “Cleveland!” but a hint of regret and an apology showed as well, with her mentioning the lyric “You met me at a cursed time,” showing her bad self in a relationship. The tone gave a lighthearted vibe but did not give excitement as much as the previous songs did; it just gave a similar tone to Swift’s other songs.
“Babylon”
This song gave me an idealized picture of experiences in a person’s early twenties that resonates closely with her young fans. I found that the melody transitioned to a calm and smooth sound, providing a homesick feeling with her lyric “You never knew that it was Babylon.”
All of the songs from “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” reminded me of Swift’s earlier work, especially with a more upbeat sound and a deeper focus on her personal life.
