Q: I am writing a paper regarding interventions for those convicted of driving under the influence, but I am having a hard time finding a resource that spells out exactly what the penalties are for those convicted of DUI’s. I have heard that DUI offenders must go through group counseling. Is that true, or just a rumor?
If so, what does it entail and how successful is the program?

A: Jenny, Thank you for your question to Boise State University Ask-A-Cop. The Boise Police Department has statistics and information on it’s website pertaining to DUI’s:

http://www.cityofboise.org/police/about_bpd/divisions/Specialized_Units/DUI_Patrols/index.aspx?id=home

There are differences in judges, jurisdictions, and courts when pertaining to DUI’s. Many of the programs and counseling mandates are up to the discretion of those entities. I would recommend you visit the Ada County Court website for more DUI info:
