There is a commonly held understanding that as college students we have a disposition to have a few drinks to relax after our strenuous college studies.

After midterms or finals, Boise State students need some way to take off the stress from studying, writing and testing.

Regularly, when the weekends arrive, many students participate in a number of activities including parties of various statures and themes, and of course the drinking games which coincide.

However, most prominent in these relief-advancing pursuits, is the game of beer pong.

Bryan’s Smokehouse, located in the Ram Plaza on Broadway holds beer pong tournaments every Friday night, beginning at 8 p.m. Show up early to play, or show up late to check out the party.

This tournament is open to any and all participants over 21-years old, ready to show off their beer pong skills.

When pursuing an activity such as this, it is important to remember to drink responsibly.

“(Bryan’s Smokehouse hosts) A great house party that is in a clean beer bar setting,” said bartender, Ernesto Villafana.

At Bryan’s Smokehouse you can’t turn your head without noticing the numerous Boise State posters, team rosters, banners and flags.  Hands down, Bryan’s Smokehouse is very proud of Boise State and its achievements.

The game itself consists of a ping pong table (painted Boise State blue) and two teams of two players opposing each other on the table’s ends, 10, 16-ounce, ‘party cups’ on both ends formed into a triangle of four, three, two and one, and both triangles filled with a pitcher of beer and, of course, two ping pong balls.

The object of the game is to throw your ping pong balls into your opponent’s cups. If you do, they drink that cup, and remove it from the table.

To win the game you must eliminate all of your opponent’s cups.  However, various people carry various rules to this game.

Bryan’s Smokehouse has a formulated rule sheet made by bartender, Ben Rogers. There are 15 rules, which are indisputable, except to a vote from the bar.

These rules further the game’s concepts: two balls in the same cup the game is over, two balls in different cups then the balls are returned to the offensive team, bouncing the ball off the table into a cup equals two cups, however bounced shots can be blocked.

These rules, as well as others, come into play on various beer pong tables.

Although there is a recreational aspect to beer pong and other drinking games, readers must remember to please drink responsibly.

Apparently dvda is mildly retarded. My comment wasn't about those that go out and have a good time on the weekends, it was referring to the arbiter staff who have nothing better to report than "cultural" beer pong and the barely disguised advertisement for some smokehouse. (Continued…)
