Un-ranked Feeder knocked off No. 64 Kallim Stewart (California) in three sets and No. 34 Shields defeated No. 28 Moritz Bauman (Wisconsin).
Feeder opened up play for the Broncos in the qualifying round of the tournament, needing to be one of the top eight in the qualifying rounds in order to advance to the main draw. He opened up against Stewart with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory to advance into the round of 32. In his second match, Feeder met No. 90 John Peers (Middle Tennessee State) and fell in a tight match 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Feeder and Shields also competed in the qualifying round in doubles, coming in as the No. 35 doubles team in the nation. They took their first round match 8-5 over Bartosz Golas and Juan Gomez (San Diego State), advancing into the round of 32. They were upset in the second round match-up in a very close 9-8 (1) match by Boris Conkie and Matteo Fago (ETSU).
Shields earned an automatic bid into the main draw with his high national ranking, but drew a tough first-round match-up against the higher-ranked Bauman. He beat Bauman in straight sets with 6-4, 6-3 victory to advance into the round of 32, where he met another highly-ranked opponent.
Shields squared off against No. 14 Bruno Rosa (Rice) and was defeated in his second round match 6-4, 6-4.
