Exhibit 'strives' for excellence

Within the sprint that is a typical college student's day, prioritizing can be a difficult task. The student mind is information-seeking, yet realistically time conscious, preferring useful informational gain in the most time efficient manner. If you are a student who tends to prioritize, indeed, who saves time only for the best in every aspect of your life, the Strive Art Exhibition is for you.
The Strive Art Exhibition is a juried collection of the thirty finest works from Boise State graduate and undergraduate art students. The juror, Perry Allen, who is the owner/director of the Basement Gallery here in Boise, had the task of choosing from countless entries the final thirty pieces. These pieces will be on display in the SUB gallery beginning October 15 and will remain on display through November 16.
The Exhibition is being put on by the Visual Arts League, a Boise State club interested in promoting the enriching affects of art throughout the University and entire Boise communities. Visual Arts League President Miiah Brown, is carrying on the club's tradition that currently spans over two decades. "I have been trying to pick up where others have left off by introducing Boise to its college's art students while trying to help students become more aware of the large contributions they can make to their communities and careers with their ideas and efforts," Brown said.
As Fine Arts Director Holly Gilchrist notes, the juried aspect of the Exhibition is exceptionally valuable for students, as having their pieces deemed strong enough to be on display by a respected juror is a great boost for their individual resumes. Gilchrist has played a big role in assisting President Brown in the long process that is putting on an art exhibition. Gilchrist will be the events curator, or the person responsible for arranging the pieces in the gallery based on subject matter, style, color, process, etc. Also of great value in this juried process is the opening reception for Strive, in which juror Perry Allen will be discussing with students why he chose the thirty pieces he did. Speaking of the juror, President Brown said, "Perry Allen has juried several juried shows that included all of the Idaho colleges and universities, so I feel that he will have a lot of insight to bring to the students that attend the reception."
The reception for the Strive Art Exhibition, open to the public, is taking place Thursday, October 16, at 5 PM in the SUB Gallery on the second floor. Those in attendance will not only get to see the great artwork, but hear from Perry Allen and learn of his top four selections. Those so honored will receive an additional resume boost and the following prize: "The top four juried selections are each receiving $200 gift certificates to The Boise Blue Art Supply Store," said Brown.
The awards are certain to help in the further production of Boise State's best; more of what can be seen during the next month at the Strive Art Exhibition.

This show is amazing! It's so awesome to see so many great works of art being created right here on campus! The art department has a talented bunch on their hands!
