Home at last, Broncos open WAC play with La Tech and Utah State
Boise State University (7-4-1) will come home for the first time in six weeks when they host Louisiana Tech University and Utah State University this weekend to open Western Athletic Conference play. The Broncos have not played at home since a 2-2 draw with Weber State University Aug. 31. They have spent the last five weeks, or nine consecutive matches, on the road where they went 5-4-0.
Friday's Match - This week's slate begins at 4 p.m. Friday with the league opener versus Louisiana Tech at the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex. The Lady Techsters enter the match with the best nonconference mark in the WAC at 10-2-1 overall. The match marks Faculty and Staff Appreciation and Soccer Camp Reunion Day. Children who attended last summer's soccer camp get in for $1if they wear their camp T-shirts.
Sunday's Match - The weekend will conclude when Boise State hosts Utah State at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Aggies enter the week with a 5-7-1 overall record, but will host the University of Idaho Friday before traveling to Boise. Sunday is "Pinkout" in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Broncos will wear pink uniforms to show their support for the cause. In addition, it is Coleman Foundation Day and Bronco Buddies Day. All members of the Bronco Buddies Kids Club will meet with the team before the match at noon and get into the match free.
Broncos prep for San Jose State, Utah State at Bronco Gym
After a 1-1 split on the road, the Boise State volleyball team returns home to Bronco Gym to host San Jose State and Utah State in Western Athletic Conference play. The Broncos moved to 5-10 overall during the weekend, including a 2-3 WAC record. In their five WAC matches played this season, Boise State earned one of their wins over San Jose State (7-10, 3-4 WAC) and will look to go 2-0 against the Spartans this Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. The Broncos will face Utah State (5-11, 3-2 WAC) for the first time this season Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
Stephanie North Named WAC Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week
Boise State freshman Stephanie North has been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the first week of competition, Sept. 29-Oct. 5.
North, a native of Klamath Falls, Ore. (Henley HS), made an immediate impact in her debut for Boise State as she was on two relay teams that set new school records while recording three records of her own last weekend against Utah and No. 24 Washington. North set schools records in the 50 free (24.06) as well as the 100 free (52.11), and defeated Washington with her 100 free time. She was also a member of the 200 freerelay which set a school record with a time of 1:38.49 to finish second to both opponents. The freshman capped off her Bronco debut with yet another school record in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.12.
This marks just the second time in Boise State school history that a Bronco has received this award.
