This weekend fans of rock climbing and potential climbers will come together for a night of films and a day of stewardship.
Sponsored by the Boise State University Outdoor Program and the Boise Climbers Alliance, the two events, a film festival and a clean up of Table Rock (an overlook northeast of Boise), aim to bring together local climbers and expose others to climbing.
On Friday night, the 3rd annual Reel Rock Film Tour will show in the Special Events Center of the Student Union Building. Viewers can watch a variety of films documenting the adventures of climbers around the world.
The feature film will be "The Sharp End," a 50-minute production following the dangerous feats of five famous climbers. Other shorter films will also be shown, including two selected from the 2008 Reel Rock Filmmaking competition.
Tom Simenc, student employee of the Outdoor Program and organizer of this year's Reel Rock Film Tour, said the event aims to bring people of the climbing community together and jump-start the next day's community service activity.
On Saturday, community members will meet at Table Rock to clean up trash, attempt to reduce erosion and remove unmarked trails from the climbing area. This is the second Adopt-A-Crag event organized by the Outdoor Program.
"You don't realize you love things to death," Assistant Director of Outdoor Programs Geoff Harrison said, explaining how it is important for people to understand the ways in which they affect the environment.
Adopt-A-Crag is registered as one of the volunteer events of Into the Streets, hosted by the Volunteer Service Board. Participants can meet at 10 a.m. at the Outdoor Program on campus at or at Table Rock under the tent adjacent to the radio towers. The event will go until 4 p.m.
Contact the Outdoor Program at 426-1946 with questions about either of these events.

Those who wish to go to the movie screening can get tickets in advance from the Outdoor Program for $6 or buy them for $8 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.
A raffle will also be held with patrons receiving a raffle ticket with the purchase of their film ticket.
